Identity Impersonation Detection White Paper Read Now
Two ways to verify a caller at the IT help desk. One scans an ID and matches a face to it. The other checks the ID against the DMV that issued it.
Trusona and Cisco Duo both verify a caller at the IT help desk to stop account takeover. Duo's help desk verification runs through Persona: the caller scans a government ID, passes a facial recognition check, and Duo matches the name and date of birth against attributes you store in Duo. Trusona reads the ID and verifies it against the state DMV that issued it, over the AAMVA network. It runs no selfie and stores no PII.
The caller scans a government ID. Trusona checks it against the state DMV that issued it, over the AAMVA network, and returns the result to the agent in real time. It detects SIM swaps and port-outs, blocks man-in-the-middle attacks, stores no PII, and never asks the caller for a selfie.
Duo's help desk verification is powered by Persona. An admin issues a five-minute access code; the caller enters it at verify.duo.com, scans a government ID, and performs facial recognition. Duo sends the caller's name and date of birth to your Persona tenant and matches them against the values you store in Duo. The identity engine is Persona, which we compare separately.
A document scan confirms that an ID looks genuine and that a face matches the photo on it. It does not confirm that the ID exists in the records of the authority that issued it. Trusona verifies the license against the state DMV over the AAMVA network, so a forged or synthetic ID that passes a document scan still fails at the source. Trusona treats the government record behind an ID as stronger evidence than a photo of the person holding it.

Comparison based on each company's public product materials as of July 2026, including Cisco Duo's identity verification documentation. "Not published" means a capability that Duo does not describe on its public help-desk pages, not confirmation that it is absent.
